University of Melbourne, School of Botany
As a partnership between the University of Melbourne and the Royal Botanical Gardens the new School of Botany responds to the twin contexts of a major pedestrian thoroughfare and the University's historic System Garden. The main facade is in patterned glazed brick in botanical foliage green. The back is made of folded glass which reflects images of the historic garden. The project incorporates specialist laboratories and a range of environmentally sustainable design features. Winner of 2004 RAIA Architecture Award.
