A time to
reflect
and reset

2020 heralded the start of a brand new decade and what seemed like a barrage of challenges. Australia’s ravaging bushfires, escalating climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic pushed our industry into quick adaptation and deep debate regarding how we respond—as citizens and specialists in the built environment. And despite the shifting sands of 2020 beneath our feet, together we’ve managed to emerge on solid ground.

Before 2020 draws to a close this is the perfect opportunity to pause, reflect and reset.

Looking back on the year that was, it is clear our relationships and collective actions were integral to succeeding in this particularly challenging 12 months. Thanks to the dedication, energy and team spirit of our studio we’ve continued to develop exceptional outcomes and deliver on our promises with care and creativity. Thanks to nimble collaboration with our clients and the communities we work with, some of whom have faced more adversity than others, many projects were completed or pushed ahead with genuine momentum.

The ACT Law Courts in Canberra and Curtin University’s Midland Campus in Perth received State and National recognition; major health projects like the Royal Hobart Hospital, Northern Hospital redevelopment and St George’s ‘Berengarra’ Aged Care reached completion; Springvale Community Hub opened to the public; innovative projects like Monash College for Monash University, ACU’s Saint Teresa of Kolkata building, University of Queensland’s Andrew N. Liveris building and Devonport City Council’s Devonport Living City Waterfront Park and Hotel continue to develop , and the Bendigo GovHub, Western Sydney University’s Bankstown Campus and University of Melbourne’s New Student Precinct are proceeding at pace.

In addition to our project accomplishments, we’ve now launched a brand new website—designed to take you deep into our methods and creativity, to introduce you to the entire team who make each project possible and to host our project archives for discovery and dissection.

We’re honoured to work with clients and teams who invest in projects which create positive change and provide support for their communities. As 2021 draws near we’re looking forward to collaborating again and diving headfirst into creative debates and deep consultations.

Until then, we’re taking some extra time off, to recharge as a practice, so we can return refreshed and inspired.

Our studio will be closed from 19 December 2020 until 11 January 2021 (inclusive). We are excited to recommence our plans and conversations well rested and full of ideas.

From all of us at Lyons, we thank you for your commitment and generosity this year. We wish you, your workplaces and your families a wonderful and restful break and look forward to working together again in the new year.

Best wishes and a safe and happy holiday.

The Lyons team.
